Time zones, daylight saving time, and state holidays.

Federal law sets the framework for time zones and daylight saving time, but states decide some of the details, including whether to observe daylight saving time at all. These maps show where states have made different choices, tied to the state law or federal rule behind each one.

Does the state observe daylight saving time?

29 Observes DST19 Observes DST, law to go year-round2 No DST (standard time all year)

The most common answer is “Observes DST”, in 29 states. Whether the state as a whole moves its clocks forward for daylight saving time each year under the federal Uniform Time Act, and whether it has enacted a law to change that. Tribal lands, U.S. territories, and which time zone a state or county is in are excluded, though notable exceptions are noted in the details.
