Privacy policy
QuirkMaps is a reference website. You can read every page without an account, and we don't ask for personal information. This page explains what little data is involved in visiting the site.
What we collect
QuirkMaps has no accounts, sign-up forms, or comment sections, so we don't collect names, email addresses, or other personal details through the site.
Like nearly every website, the service that hosts QuirkMaps automatically keeps standard server logs. These typically include your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the page that linked you here, and the date and time. The host uses these logs to deliver pages, keep the site secure, and diagnose problems. We don't use them to identify individual visitors.
Cookies and tracking
QuirkMaps does not currently set cookies, run analytics, or use tracking pixels. Our fonts and scripts are stored on our own site, so loading a page doesn't send requests to outside font or script services.
Your browser may store small preferences on your own device, such as a cached copy of our stylesheet. That data stays on your device.
Advertising
QuirkMaps does not currently show ads. If we add advertising, we will update this policy before any ads appear. The update will explain which advertising partners we work with, how they use cookies, and how you can opt out of personalized ads.
If you email us, for example to report an error, we use your message and email address only to read and reply to it and to fix the problem you reported. We don't sell or share your email address, and we don't add you to any mailing list.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to state legislatures, agencies, and other sources so you can check each answer yourself. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don't control.
Children
QuirkMaps is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
