South Carolina: Do you need a front license plate?
Rear plate only
South Carolina issues one license plate for a passenger car, and it goes on the rear.
The SCDMV has issued one plate per vehicle since the 1975-76 licensing year. The law requires it on the outside rear of the vehicle. Truck tractors and road tractors use the front, and heavy single-unit trucks may use either.
What the law says
(A) Unless the provisions of this section apply, license plates issued for motor vehicles must be attached to the outside rear of the vehicle, open to view.
