Oklahoma: Are groceries taxed?
Groceries exempt
Oklahoma ended its 4.5% state sales tax on groceries on August 29, 2024, though local sales taxes still apply.
House Bill 1955 (2024) removed the state portion of the sales tax on food and food ingredients. Most prepared food, alcohol and dietary supplements are still taxed at the full 4.5% state rate. City and county sales taxes still apply to groceries.
What the law says
This bill eliminates the state portion of the sales tax on food and food ingredient items typically purchased at a grocery store.
