Louisiana: Do adults have to wear motorcycle helmets?
All riders
Louisiana requires every motorcycle operator and passenger to wear a helmet, regardless of age.
Helmets must be fastened with a chin strap while the motorcycle is moving. Local police may issue permits exempting members of groups taking part in parades or public exhibitions while they participate. Autocycles with a roll bar or roll cage are also exempt.
Conditions
- Parade or exhibition permit exemption from local police
What the law says
No person shall operate or ride upon any motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle unless the person is equipped with and is wearing on the head a safety helmet of the type and design manufactured for use by operators of such vehicles, which shall be secured properly with a chin strap while the vehicle is in motion.
