Alaska: Is it legal to pump your own gas?

Self-serve allowed

Alaska allows self-service gas; its state fire code adopts the model chapter on fuel stations, which permits self-service, without changes.

Alaska adopts the 2021 International Fire Code, including Chapter 23 on motor fuel-dispensing facilities. The state's amendments to that chapter cover only how waste liquids drain, not who pumps the fuel. The model chapter allows self-service with a trained attendant on duty, and unattended stations where approved. This is inferred from the adoption, because the model code text was not opened on an official site.
