Hawaii: Is it legal to pump your own gas?
Self-serve allowed
Hawaii allows drivers to pump their own gas. The state fire code has rules for attended and unattended self-service stations.
Hawaii's State Fire Code is NFPA 1 with state amendments. The amendments fall in the code's self-service fuel dispensing section and cover the age to pump, warning signs and devices that hold the nozzle open. One rule says people under the age to get a driver's license may not dispense fuel. County fire departments adopt and enforce the code locally, so county amendments can matter.
Conditions
- Must be old enough to get a driver's license to dispense fuel
What the law says
42.7.1.1 Age Limitation. Persons under the eligible age to obtain a driver's license are prohibited from dispensing fuel.
