Wisconsin: Is it legal to pump your own gas?

Self-serve allowed

Wisconsin allows self-service gas; state fueling rules cover both attended and unattended self-service stations.

Wisconsin's flammable liquids rules, run by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, set requirements for attended and unattended fuel stations. An attended station needs an attendant on duty each day, but not every hour, to supervise and control fueling. Unattended stations must have leak detection that shuts down the pump. Card-reader and other point-of-sale pumps must meet the national NFPA 30A standard for unattended self-service stations.

What the law says

To be considered as being an attended fueling facility, there shall be at least one attendant regularly on duty on a daily basis, but not necessarily during all hours of operation, to supervise, observe, and control the actual dispensing of fuel. ... All point-of-sale dispensing systems, whether attended or not, shall meet the requirements in NFPA 30A section 9.5 for unattended self-service motor fuel dispensing facilities except a telephone or other means for contacting emergency services available to the public is not required.
