New Jersey: Does the state have a sales-tax-free weekend?
No. New Jersey repealed its annual back-to-school sales tax holiday in 2024, so none was held in 2026.
The holiday covered computers, school supplies, and sports or recreation equipment bought for personal use. The Division of Taxation announced it in 2023, then a 2024 law repealed it. Sellers are told to charge sales tax on all taxable items.
What the law says
P.L. 2024, c. 19. repeals N.J.S.A. 54:32B-8.21a, which established an annual Sales Tax Holiday for certain retail sales of computers, school supplies, and sport or recreational equipment when sold to an individual purchaser for non-business use. ... Thus, the annual Sales Tax Holiday will no longer occur and sellers should charge sales tax on all taxable items.
