Louisiana: Does the state have a lottery?
Has a state lottery
Louisiana runs a state lottery through the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, set up by a 1990 law.
A 1990 law created the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, a public corporation that runs the state lottery, and the corporation formed in 1991. Under a 2003 constitutional amendment, lottery proceeds go to the Minimum Foundation Program, which funds K-12 public schools. Powerball and Mega Millions are sold.
What the law says
The legislature hereby recognizes that the operations of a state lottery are unique activities for state government and that a corporate structure will best enable the lottery to be managed in an entrepreneurial and business-like manner.
