Kentucky: Is it legal to put a train horn on a car?

Allowed with limits

Kentucky sets no horn loudness limit but bars sirens, whistles, and bells on non-emergency vehicles.

Kentucky only requires a horn loud enough to be heard from 200 feet and bans sounding it unnecessarily. It has no 'unreasonably loud or harsh' rule. A separate law bars any siren, whistle, or bell on non-emergency vehicles, but it does not say whether air or train horns count as whistles.

Conditions

  • No siren, whistle, or bell on non-emergency vehicles
  • Horn may not be sounded unnecessarily
