Iowa: Is there an annual vehicle safety inspection?
No safety inspection
No. Iowa does not require safety inspections of private passenger cars to register them or on a regular schedule.
The Iowa DOT's registration page lists the steps to title and register a car, including cars from other states, and none of them is a safety, emissions or VIN inspection. New residents must title and register within 30 days. Salvage and rebuilt vehicles have separate rules that were not checked here.
What the law says
Iowa law requires you to title and register your motor vehicle with any county treasurer's office within 30 days from the date you establish residency.
