New Jersey: Do you need an ID to vote?
Most New Jersey voters don't show ID at the polls. Only certain first-time or unverified registrants must, and photo and non-photo documents count.
Voters whose registration is complete in the poll book vote on the machine without showing ID. ID is required only of 'need ID' voters, mostly people who registered by mail and whose ID was never provided or verified. Those voters may use a photo ID or a document like a bank statement or utility bill. Without ID they vote a provisional ballot, and a copy of their ID must reach the county by the close of business two days after the election.
