Indiana: Can car dealerships open on Sundays?
Sunday car sales banned
Indiana makes it a crime to be in the business of buying, selling, or trading cars on Sunday.
Sunday car dealing is a Class B misdemeanor; the ban predates a 2025 law (House Enrolled Act 1382) that updated the section. Motorcycle sales and holders of a special event permit (used for certain large collector-vehicle auctions) are exempt. The ban applies to people engaged in the business of vehicle trading, not to one-off private sales.
Conditions
- Motorcycles exempt
- Special event permit holders exempt
What the law says
