Louisiana: Can car dealerships open on Sundays?
Sunday car sales banned
Louisiana law says licensed new and used car and truck dealers may not be open on Sunday.
This statewide rule targets licensed dealers that sell new or used cars or trucks and bars them from being open at all on Sunday. Separately, parishes and cities can adopt broader Sunday closing ordinances with voter approval, but the dealer rule applies regardless. The statute itself lists no penalty.
What the law says
No motor vehicle dealer licensed pursuant to Title 32 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 who is engaged in the sale of new or used cars or trucks may be open on Sunday.
