Texas: Can car dealerships open on Sundays?
Limited by place or day
Texas dealers can sell cars on Saturday or Sunday, but not on both days of the same weekend.
State law bars selling or offering a car for sale on back-to-back Saturday and Sunday, so each dealer must close sales on one of the two days. Each day and each sale is a separate violation. Civil penalties run up to $500 for a first violation and $1,000 to $5,000 for a third or later one, and can be tripled for willful violations. Occasional sales by people who aren't in the car business are exempt.
Conditions
- Must not sell on both Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend
- Price quotes for motor homes and tow trucks allowed at qualifying vehicle shows
What the law says
A person may not, on consecutive days of Saturday and Sunday: (1) sell or offer for sale a motor vehicle; or (2) compel an employee to sell or offer for sale a motor vehicle.
