Virginia: Can car dealerships open on Sundays?
Sunday sales allowed
Virginia has no state law that stops car dealers from selling on Sunday.
Virginia repealed its general Sunday-closing law in 2004. The dealer law only requires dealers to be open at least 20 hours a week, including at least 10 weekday hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. It says nothing about Sunday. This answer is an inference from that repeal and the absence of any Sunday rule in the dealer law.
Conditions
- Dealers must be open at least 20 hours a week, with 10 weekday daytime hours
What the law says
Each motor vehicle dealer shall be open for business a minimum of 20 hours per week, at least 10 of which shall be between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except that the Board, on written request by a dealer, may modify these requirements for good cause.
