Florida: Does the state observe daylight saving time?
Observes DST, law to go year-round
Florida observes daylight saving time, but its 2018 Sunshine Protection Act would make it year-round if Congress allows.
The 2018 law states the Legislature's intent to stay on daylight saving time all year once Congress changes federal law. Congress has not done so, so Florida still changes its clocks twice a year. The law has no condition about neighboring states.
Conditions
- Congress must amend 15 U.S.C. 260a to allow year-round daylight saving time
What the law says
(2) If the United States Congress amends 15 U.S.C. s. 260a to authorize states to observe daylight saving time year-round, it is the intent of the Legislature that daylight saving time shall be the year-round standard time of the entire state and all of its political subdivisions.
