South Carolina: Does the state observe daylight saving time?
Observes DST, law to go year-round
South Carolina observes daylight saving time; a 2020 law makes it year-round if Congress allows.
Act 113 of 2020, signed February 3, 2020, says the legislature intends daylight saving time to be South Carolina's year-round time if Congress amends federal law to allow it. Until then, the state changes its clocks each spring and fall. 2025 bills for permanent standard time did not pass.
Conditions
- Takes effect only if Congress amends 15 U.S.C. 260a to allow year-round daylight saving time
What the law says
If the United States Congress amends 15 U.S.C. Section 260a to authorize states to observe daylight saving time year round, it is the intent of the South Carolina General Assembly that daylight saving time be the year-round standard of the entire State and all of its political subdivisions.
