New Jersey: Do you need a front license plate?
Front and rear plates
New Jersey issues two plates for passenger cars and requires one on the front and one on the rear.
The MVC issues two plates for a passenger car. Motorcycles, autocycles, trailers, and motorized bicycles get one. When only one plate is issued it goes on the rear. Bills to switch to a single plate have been introduced, but none has passed.
What the law says
...if two registration plates are issued they shall be displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle ... if only one registration plate is issued it shall be displayed on the rear of the vehicle.
