Vermont: Do adults have to wear motorcycle helmets?
All riders
Vermont requires every motorcycle operator and passenger to wear a helmet, regardless of age.
The helmet must meet the federal motor vehicle safety standard for motorcycle helmets. The only exception in the section is for people riding in fully enclosed autocycles.
What the law says
A person may not operate or ride upon a motorcycle upon a highway unless he or she properly wears protective headgear of a type that conforms to the federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards contained in 49 C.F.R. § 571.218, as may be amended. The requirement of this section shall not apply to occupants of fully enclosed autocycles.
