Louisiana: Is it legal to pump your own gas?
Louisiana allows self-service gas. Fire marshal rules even permit unattended fuel dispensing systems that meet national fire standards.
Louisiana's State Fire Marshal rules allow unattended fuel dispensing systems if they meet NFPA 30 and NFPA 30A, the national flammable liquids and fuel station codes. Plans for fuel stations must follow NFPA 30A. No Louisiana rule was found that bars or limits customers pumping their own gas. A state law also requires dealers that sell from both full-service and self-service pumps to pump fuel for drivers with mobility impairments at the self-service price.
What the law says
A motor fuel dealer shall have an employee dispense motor fuel into a motor vehicle from a full-service pump at the same price as the motor fuel dealer charges the general public for the same grade of motor fuel dispensed from a self-service pump, if all of the following apply: ... (3) The motor fuel dealer sells motor fuel at retail from both full-service and self-service pumps.
