Mississippi: Is it legal to pump your own gas?

Self-serve allowed

Mississippi allows self-service gas; state law sets price-sign rules for self-service pumps at retail stations.

Mississippi law requires price signs at retail stations to say when a posted price is for self-service pumps, which shows self-service stations operate legally. The state also adopts the International Fire Code statewide (the 2024 edition, as of July 1, 2024). No Mississippi law found bars drivers from pumping their own gas. Cities and counties may adopt their own fire codes if they are at least as strict.

What the law says

All signs advertising the price per gallon of gasoline, alcohol blended fuel, diesel fuel or kerosene offered for sale through self-service operated pumps at retail service stations shall clearly indicate that the posted price per gallon and brand is offered for sale through self-service pumps.
