Florida: Is there an annual vehicle safety inspection?
Florida does not require safety inspections for private cars; police may inspect a car they believe is unsafe.
Florida law lets police stop and inspect a car they have reason to think is unsafe or missing required equipment, but there is no inspection schedule. Cars titled in Florida for the first time, such as those moving from another state, need a VIN check, which confirms identity, not equipment. New cars are exempt from the VIN check. This answer is inferred from the statutes, which set no routine safety inspection.
What the law says
Any police officer may at any time, upon reasonable cause to believe that a vehicle is unsafe or not equipped as required by law, or that its equipment is not in proper adjustment or repair, require the driver of the vehicle to stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection and such test with reference thereto as may be appropriate.
