Kansas: Where can you buy liquor?
Private licensed stores
Kansas licenses privately owned retail liquor stores to sell spirits in sealed packages; the state does not buy or sell liquor.
A Kansas retailer's license allows sales of liquor and cereal malt beverage in the original package, for drinking away from the store. The state licenses these private stores rather than running its own. Local rules can also affect where liquor stores may operate.
What the law says
Except as provided in K.S.A. 41-308d, and amendments thereto, a retailer's license shall allow the licensee to sell and offer for sale at retail and deliver in the original package, as therein prescribed, alcoholic liquor and cereal malt beverage for use or consumption off and away from the premises specified in such license.
