Michigan: Where can you buy liquor?
State wholesale, private stores
Michigan's Liquor Control Commission is the wholesaler of spirits, but privately owned licensed stores sell liquor to the public.
All spirits sold in Michigan must first be bought and brought into the state by the Liquor Control Commission, which sells them to licensed retailers. Private 'authorized distribution agents' appointed by the commission store and deliver the bottles, and privately owned licensed retailers sell to shoppers. Small distillers may sell their own spirits directly to retailers.
What the law says
All spirits for sale, use, storage, or distribution in this state must originally be purchased by and imported into the state by the commission or by prior written authority of the commission.
