Michigan: Does the state observe daylight saving time?
Observes DST
Michigan observes daylight saving time under federal law; it has no state law exempting itself or adopting year-round time.
Michigan once had a 1967 state law on standard time, but a voter-initiated law repealed it in 1972, and a 1974 Eastern Standard Time act expired in 1975. With no state exemption on the books, the federal Uniform Time Act puts Michigan on daylight saving time. This is an inference from the repeal notes and federal law; a 2025 bill to end daylight saving time has not passed.
What the law says
435.211-435.213 Repealed. 1972, Initiated Law, Eff. Dec. 8, 1972.
