New York: Is it legal to pump your own gas?
New York allows self-service gas; state law regulates stations that offer both self-service and full-service pumps.
No New York law bars drivers from pumping their own gas. Stations that offer both self-service and full service at the same time must pump fuel for drivers with disability plates or permits from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the self-service price. New York City has its own fire code, which can add local rules.
What the law says
