South Dakota: Where can you buy liquor?

Private licensed stores

South Dakota licenses private wholesalers and off-sale liquor stores; the state does not sell liquor itself.

Retail liquor for home use is sold under off-sale licenses, and separately licensed wholesalers supply retailers. State law also lets towns hold off-sale licenses, so some South Dakota towns run their own municipal liquor stores. Licenses are approved by city or county governments, which also control how many are available.
