Idaho: Does the state observe daylight saving time?

Observes DST, law to go year-round

Idaho observes daylight saving time; a 2020 law would make it permanent in Idaho's Pacific time zone once Washington does.

The 2020 law applies only to the northern panhandle, which is on Pacific time. Southern Idaho, which is on Mountain time, is not covered and would keep changing clocks. The northern switch happens only after Washington makes daylight saving time permanent, and Washington's own law in turn depends on Congress allowing it.

Conditions

  • Applies only to Idaho's Pacific time zone (northern panhandle)
  • Washington must first make daylight saving time permanent
  • Federal law must allow year-round daylight saving time

What the law says

At such time as the state of Washington makes daylight saving time the permanent time of the state and all of its political subdivisions, those areas of the state of Idaho that are in the Pacific time zone shall also make daylight saving time the permanent time of those areas of the state of Idaho and all of those political subdivisions located within those areas.
