Mississippi: Does the state observe daylight saving time?

Observes DST, law to go year-round

Mississippi observes daylight saving time but passed a 2021 law to stay on it year-round if Congress allows.

The Governor signed House Bill 1062, the "Sunshine Protection Act," on March 17, 2021. It applies only if Congress changes federal law to let states keep daylight saving time all year, and it does not depend on neighboring states. Later bills on the same subject in 2025 and 2026 did not pass.

Conditions

  • Takes effect only if Congress amends 15 U.S.C. 260a to allow year-round daylight saving time
