Louisiana: Does the state observe daylight saving time?
Observes DST, law to go year-round
Louisiana observes daylight saving time; a 2020 law would keep it on daylight saving time all year if Congress allows.
Act 133 of 2020 added the provision to state law. It takes effect only if Congress amends federal law to let states stay on daylight saving time all year. If that happens during the winter, Louisiana would wait until the March switch and then stay on daylight saving time.
Conditions
- Congress must amend federal law to allow year-round daylight saving time
What the law says
If the United States Congress amends 15 U.S.C. 260(a) to authorize states to observe daylight saving time year-round, the state shall adopt daylight saving time as the year-round standard time of the entire state and all of its political subdivisions.
