Colorado: Is there an annual vehicle safety inspection?
No safety inspection
Colorado has no safety inspection for private cars; emissions tests apply in the Denver metro and North Front Range areas.
Cars brought in from another state need a VIN verification, which confirms the car's identity rather than its equipment. Emissions tests happen every two years in the program area, after an exemption for the first seven model years of gas cars. Rebuilt, salvage and custom vehicles get a more detailed certified VIN inspection. This answer is inferred from DMV pages that describe only these checks.
What the law says
You will need a DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification Number (available on the Forms page here) when you are bringing in a vehicle from out of state.
