Mississippi: Where can you buy liquor?
Mississippi is the only wholesaler of liquor, and privately owned package stores buy from the state and sell to the public.
State law makes the Department of Revenue the wholesale distributor of alcoholic beverages other than beer, and retailers must buy from it, with narrow exceptions. Liquor ships from the state's ABC Liquor Distribution Center to licensed retailers. The law gives the department wholesale powers but no retail stores.
What the law says
The department is hereby created a wholesale distributor and seller of alcoholic beverages, not including malt liquors, within the State of Mississippi. It is granted the right to import and sell alcoholic beverages at wholesale within the state, and no person who is granted the right to sell, distribute or receive alcoholic beverages at retail shall purchase any alcoholic beverages from any source other than the department
