Louisiana: Where can you buy liquor?
Private licensed stores
Louisiana issues retail liquor permits to private package stores; the state does not buy or sell spirits.
Anyone selling alcoholic beverages needs a permit from the state's commissioner, and package stores hold a Class B retail liquor permit. The state licenses these private businesses rather than selling liquor itself. Parish and city rules can also apply.
What the law says
Those operating package houses--one hundred dollars for each place of business in any city in the state and fifty dollars for each place of business in a town, village, or unincorporated place. This permit is known as a Class B Retail Liquor Permit.
