Texas: Does the state observe daylight saving time?
Texas observes daylight saving time and passed a 2025 law to stay on it all year if Congress allows it.
House Bill 1393, signed June 20, 2025, makes daylight saving time year-round in both of Texas's time zones and calls it "Texas Time." It takes effect only if Congress passes a law letting Texas do this; otherwise it has no effect. Until then, Texas keeps changing its clocks each spring and fall.
Conditions
- Congress must pass a law authorizing Texas to observe year-round daylight saving time
What the law says
(d) This state, acting as authorized under federal law, shall observe daylight saving time year-round. ... The standard time in this state shall be referred to as Texas Time. ... (b) This Act takes effect only if the United States Congress enacts legislation that becomes law that authorizes the State of Texas to observe daylight saving time year-round.
